Mokume gane is a method devised in Japan in the 1600's for the forging of fittings for samurai swords. Metals of different colours create a grain-like surface pattern – which is what mokume gane literally means – on the forged object. This tradition dating hundreds of years back inspires Jorma Koski, the master goldsmith, in his futuristic Sakura jewelry designs. The combination of metals in his pieces takes place in a new and innovative way – the white-shining silver surfaces receive dark bronze patterns that are unique in each item.
