Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen is a story about a Spanish beauty unwilling to give in to norms. The story of Carmen inspired Kirsti Doukas to design the fourth Kalevala Jewelry and Savonlinna Opera Festival collection. Carmen’s versatile personality is portrayed in the elegant feminine jewellery that combines both sensitivity and strength. The lacy structure is an attempt to break away from convention and enhance individuality – like Carmen herself in her quest for emancipation. The brilliant garnet and red taffeta lace echo the deep red notes and passions of the opera.
